I'm not especially versed with the pinku outputs of Toei and Nikkatsu, but this movie - which plays out like a twisted cousin of "Hatchet for the Honeymoon" and a crazed uncle of "American Psycho" - lingers in the mind for its artful direction by Norifumi Suzuki (best known for "Sex & Fury", one of the key Japanese influences on "Kill Bill"), as much as how it wistfully spits in the eye of any number of taboos.
Based on a manga, the script by Seijun Suzuki collaborator Atsushi Yamatoya (who also wrote some of the most iconic episodes of my favourite anime franchise, "Lupin III") offers moments of surprising pathos concerning legacy and intergenerational abuse amid the tawdriness, with protagonist Tatsyua (Shun Domon) being torn between following the legacy of the biological father who forcefully brought him into this world, or finding happiness with the seemingly pure-of-heart Yumiko (Hiromi Namino, pictured) - who has knockabout secrets of her own that are only shared in the final reel.
